Things to know
- All-in-One Digital Travel Form: You must complete the free Mauritius All-in-One Digital Travel Form online within 72 hours before your flight. It generates a QR code that health and immigration officers scan upon landing; missing this causes major airport delays.
- Exact Stay Length Stamping: The immigration officer stamps your passport for the exact duration of your confirmed hotel/accommodation booking, not automatically a flat 60 days. If you only book the first 3 nights of a 10-day trip, they may restrict your stamp length or pull you aside for questioning. Book your entire stay upfront.
- "Visa on Arrival" Reality Check: It is technically a visa exemption/entry stamp process rather than a pre-approved digital eVisa. Approval happens via a brief immigration counter chat. If your paperwork (return flight, hotel printouts, funds) is unorganized, officers will pull you aside.
- Proof of Funds Scrutiny: Officially pegged at USD $100 per day per person. While rarely checked in full depth, immigration can ask for international credit/debit cards, cash, or bank statements. Do not travel assuming "no visa means no checks."
- Extending Beyond 60 Days: If you want to stay longer than 60 days (up to a 90-day max or via local extensions), you must visit the Passport and Immigration Office (PIO) in Port Louis. Do not overstay, as it creates legal trouble and risks future visa-on-arrival privileges for Indian nationals.
- Extension Processing Delays: If applying for a local extension or a Premium Visa after arrival, civil servants are polite and structured, but processing can take weeks or months; lodge extensions well before your initial stamp expires to maintain legal residency during the lag.
- Return/Onward Ticket Enforcement: Airlines in India (IndiGo, Air Mauritius, etc.) will frequently block you at check-in in Mumbai, Delhi, or Bangalore if you do not have a confirmed return or onward ticket out of Mauritius. One-way entries are rejected.
- No Work Permitted: The tourist visa/exemption strictly forbids taking up local employment or remote work-as-employment without proper pre-approved permits (like a Premium Visa or Work Permit).
