Things to know

Critical Immigration & Airport Realities
• Strict 6-Month Passport Rule: Airlines will strictly deny boarding if your passport expires even a day under the 6-month threshold post-departure. Travellers note that ticketing systems allow you to buy the ticket, but check-in agents will block you at the gate.
• Proof of Funds & Returns: You must have a pre-booked return ticket. Immigration officers frequently check for sufficient funds to cover your stay.
• Extensions: A point of consensus among travellers is that if you ever need an extended visa or sponsor tracking, the department is notoriously difficult to reach via phone or email.
• Nadi Airport Bottlenecks: Expect clearing immigration and customs to take an hour or longer upon arrival. If you have a domestic connection (e.g., to outer islands), alert the ground staff immediately for expedited handling.

Money, Connectivity & Logistics
• ATM & Card Strategy: While cards are standard in resorts, cash is required for taxis, local markets, and small vendors. A community consensus advises withdrawing from green BSP bank ATMs, which charge a lower fee of FJD $10 compared to ANZ's FJD $15 per transaction.
• SIM Cards: Vodafone and Digicel booths are available right outside the security zone at Nadi Airport. Grab your tourist SIM there; coverage is excellent on the main island (Viti Levu) but fluctuates heavily on outer islands.
• Indian Culture & Dining: Fiji has a massive Indo-Fijian population. You will find an abundance of Indian restaurants, grocery items, and familiar cultural spaces, particularly around Nadi and Suva.

Crucial Cultural Etiquette
If you intend to visit local villages outside of your commercial resort, you must adhere to strict traditional protocols:
• Ask Permission First: Before taking photos of locals or wandering into communal spaces, always seek explicit permission.
• Remove Hats and Sunglasses: Wearing anything on your head is considered a direct insult to the village chief. Keep your head uncovered while inside a village.
• Dress Modestly: Ensure your shoulders and knees are covered (carrying a local sulu or sarong is highly recommended).
• Remove Footwear: Always leave your shoes outside the door before entering any local building or home
